: Cynthia (Cindy) Jardine is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Health and Community at the University of the Fraser Valley in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.Laurie-Ann Lines is a member of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation in the Northwest Territories, Canada and a PhD student in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

: The research was reviewed and approved by the University of Alberta Research Ethics Office (Study ID: Pro00065750) and the Aurora Research Institute (License number: 15935). Participants provided written or oral consent to participate, which was approved by the University of Alberta Research Ethics Office. For youth participants under the age of 18 years, written parental or guardian consent was obtained, as well as assent from the youth.

: The results and interpretation were verified as accurate by all research participants. Written consent from parents or guardians, and assent from the youth participants, was obtained for the use of the photographs and murals.
