Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval for the MAL-ED study in Vellore was obtained from the CMC Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to subject recruitment []. Approval was also obtained from the Emory University IRB and the CMC IRB prior to the SaniPath exposure assessment tool deployment. Written, informed consent was obtained onsite from the child’s caregiver prior to survey administration. If a respondent was illiterate, the consent form was read to them in Tamil and they gave their thumb print to consent.
