Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study protocol conformed to the ethical guidelines of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the Luxor HCV Treatment Center ethics committee. All participants gave written informed consent in Arabic to participate in the screening program. Participants found to be positive for anti-HCV antibodies or HBsAg were contacted and scheduled for examination and treatment at the center. For analysis, only data on age, gender, and anti-HCV and HBsAg status were available and any other identifying information was removed.
