Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval was not required for this study as assuring the quality of MSIS data is within the mandate and legal obligations of the NIPH (CitationRef removed). Provision for compilation of data from MSIS and NPR for the purposes of quality control can be found in the MSIS Regulations (Section 8, §2–6, second paragraph) and the Norwegian Patient Register Regulations (§2–4, first paragraph and §3–1, 2nd paragraph). Participation in the survey of clinicians was voluntary and submission of the completed questionnaire was considered consent to participate. The confidentiality of participant identity was maintained and all data was aggregated to ensure the responses from specific hospitals could not be identified.
