Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Under the Dutch law for medical-scientific research (WMO;), no formal approval of the medical ethics committee of the Erasmus University Medical Centre was required for this type of non-invasive survey research. The participants were not asked to actively sign an informed consent form, but the background and objectives of the study were communicated on the first page of the questionnaire and in the accompanying invitation letter. Completion of the questionnaire was voluntary. The use of personal data in the GLOBE study is in compliance with the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act and the Municipal Database Act, and has been registered with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (number 1248943).
