Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Data used in this study were pseudonymised primary care data extracted from general practices who are members of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC) network. These data were extracted into a secure network. Patients who opt out of data sharing are excluded from the extraction process.This study was defined as a study of “Usual Practice,” by the UK Health Research Authority decision tool () and as such did not require formal ethical approval. We have also completed the University of Surrey ‘s Research Integrity and Governance Offices (RIGO) tool to assess the requirements of the study. This also confirmed that a formal ethical review was not required. The study was approved by the RCGP Data Access Committee.
