Ethics approval and consent to participate

: This research project was submitted to and approved by the <i>Centro de Estudios Socioculturales e Internacionales</i> ethics committee at <i>Los Andes University in 2004</i>. Accordingly, all research procedures followed ethical norms as laid out in resolution # 8430–1993 by the Colombian Ministry of Health and all participants accepted and signed written informed consents. Rendering to the Colombian Ministry of Health resolution No. 008430 issued in the year 1993, article No. 10, this study belongs to the “minimal risk” human being studies. During the study, none of the participants was exposed to any clinical or biological test. Thorough the whole process of this research, the researchers explained what will be done, the purpose of the study, the use of tape recorders or any technique device and taking notes. The participants were aware of the objectives, methodology and results of the research. In order to ensure confidentially and discretion, a written informed consent was signed before the start of each interview and life history (according to the same Ministry of Health resolution, article 15 and 16). The anonymity of the participants was guaranteed. More over, the study was developed in conformity with Helsinki (1964) declaration, revised in Tokyo (1975), Venice (1983), and Hong Kong (1989).
