Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethics approval was granted by the WITS Human Research Ethics Committee on 31st July 2015 through clearance certificate No. M150751. Furthermore, ethical clearances and approval were granted by the Medical Research Coordinating Committee of the National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania (NIMR/HQ/R.8a/Vol.IX/2184), the Scientific and Ethics Review Unit of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI/RES/7/3/1), the Ministry of Public Health and AIDS Control in Burundi; the Ministry of Health in Rwanda (No20/5545/DGCPHS/PH/2015), the Ministry of Health in Uganda, the Ministry of Health of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (BD.301/366/01), and the East African Community Secretariat (PSS/2/4/13).
