: Ethical approval was obtained from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) research ethics and publication committee with a reference number DA.282/298/01.C. Furthermore, all methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations of MUHAS research ethics and publication committee. In addition, permission to conduct the study in Dar es Salaam was obtained from the health secretary of Dar es Salaam City Council with a reference number BJZ/M.20/C.6/221. Written informed consent was obtained from commuters as well as public buses drivers and conductors prior to the interviews.
