: The study was approved by the Ethics Committee for the Humanities (ECH) of the University of Ghana. Fishers who agreed to participate in the study signed the written informed consent form. Fishers who were illiterates were made to appoint legal guardians who could read and write in English to explain the consent form in a language they understood before signing it. The legal guardians signed all illiterate fishers' written informed consent forms. Also, the data collection adhered to the principles of the declaration of Helsinki such as protecting the health, well-being, and rights of participants, as well as their dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
