: The study was reviewed by the Research and Ethics Committee, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kandahar, Afghanistan (Certificate #156; Dated 24/July/2023). The committee approved the study and waived the ethical application because secondary data from the Afghanistan Health Survey 2018 (AHS2018) were used and analyzed in this study. For the AHS 2018, the ethical approval was obtained from the Institutional Review Board of the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan in 2017. All interviews of AHS 2018 began with an informed consent section outlining the purpose, process, confidentiality, and use of the interview to the respondent. The respondents were informed that participation in the study is completely voluntary, and that they could choose to withdraw at any time during the interview. Informed consent to proceed with the interviews was obtained from participants. For pregnant women aged less than 16 years, informed consent was taken from their legal guardians (husbands/fathers-in-law/mothers-in-law).
