: The “Disease knowledge and information needs– Diabetes mellitus (2017)” survey was approved by the ethics committee of the Berlin Chamber of Physicians in August 2017 (Ärztekammer Berlin; No. Eth-23/17) and the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. Prior to the actual telephone interview, all participants were informed about the procedure of the interview, the aims of the survey, including data analyses in anonymized form in studies to improve health information and preventive services for the population, the voluntary nature of their participation, as well as data protection regulations, and gave verbal informed consent to participate. The analyses conducted in this study with the anonymized survey data align with the aforementioned approval granted by the ethics committee.
