: Approval for the research was granted by the Research Governance Committee of Apunipima Cape York Health Council and Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Board. Ethics approval was granted from the University of Queensland (2020/HE000636) and the Central Australian Human Research Ethics Committees (CA-203701). Consent was a multi-stage process, where participants firstly consented to participating in the study, had training in consent processes including ethics of taking photographs of other people including children. The photovoice consent process included acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, and cultural heritage being retained by participants and acknowledged in dissemination, thereby protecting their ownership of intellectual and cultural property.
: Participants had the option to give permission via a consent form to have their photographs used publicly (with an additional consent form for photographs of other people including children). The forms contained sections to nominate whether names and/or community names were used.
