: This project was reviewed by each site’s Institutional Review Board and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and deemed a public health surveillance activity (PHSA). A PHSA does not meet the definition of human subject research and was conducted consistent with applicable federal law and policy. (§ See e.g., 45 C.F.R. part 46.102(f), 46.102(k), 46.102(1)(2), 21 C.F.R. part 56; 42 U.S.C. §241 (d); 5 U.S.C. §552a; 44 U.S.C. §3501 et seq.) Specifically, the Boise State University Institutional Review Board and the Temple University Institutional Review Board determined this project constitutes a PHSA.
