The need for written informed consent was waived for all study subjects by the institutional review board (IRB) of the College of Medicine and Health Science, Bahir Dar University and Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital since the study included emergency and critical patients. During follow-up phone calls oral consent to participate in the study was obtained from patients or family members.
