The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant national and institutional guidelines. No consent to participate was required from the relatives of the deceased’s persons as is stipulated in terms of the Inquests Act (no 58 of 1959) as it is used for research purposes only. Furthermore, consent was granted by the CEO of Forensic Pathology Services and Head of department of Garankuwa FPS for this study, with full insight into the details of what information will be used, how it will be used and viewing the data tools and methodology used.
