: This study received ethical approval from the institutional review boards of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, Belgium (1617/22) and locally from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Buea in Cameroon (2023/1937-09/UB/SG/IRB/FHS). Both IRBs approved the protocol, which included a consent waiver for the analysis of pseudonymized retrospectively collected line list surveillance data for the description of the outbreak. Furthermore, we obtained written informed consent from all participants recruited prospectively in the case-control study. Administrative authorisation was obtained from the Southwest Regional Delegation of Public Health.
