: Ethical approval was obtained from the University of Ibadan/University College Hospital Joint ethics review committee (UI/EC/20/0122). Verbal informed consent was obtained from each respondent after explaining the purpose of the research. The study adhered to the Helsinki declaration of respect for person, confidentiality, minimizing harm and maximizing benefits. We ensured confidentiality by assigning number to each respondent. Respondents that reported to be traumatised by their IPV experience during and/or after the interviews were referred to organisations that offered psychosocial support. To ensure the safety of respondents, we recruited only one respondent from each household, and interview was conducted in a private place provided by the respondent.
