: In accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, ethical approval for the data extraction and analysis performed for this study was granted by the University of Health and Allied Sciences Research Ethics Committee (UHAS-REC A.7 [] 23–24) following prior permission from the Dean of the Medical School to extract the data for reanalysis and publication. The primary survey itself conducted three years prior did not require ethical approval as it was part of curriculum implementation and training for 4th year medical students. The curriculum has long been approved by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission which oversees higher education in the country. Nonetheless, as part of the community entry processes, permission was obtained from the District Directors of Health Services for the two districts and the traditional leadership of each community involved. Verbal informed consent was obtained from all respondents prior to their participation in the primary survey. There was no health risk to participants during the conduct of the survey and neither was there any form of payment or inducement.
