: Ethical approval was obtained from the Institutional Review Board of the College of Health Sciences, Mekelle University. Additionally, the Tigray Regional Health Bureau granted permission to conduct the study. Individual oral informed consent was obtained from all participants. The participants were told that they did not directly benefit from participation in the study, but they were given link referrals if they had the parasite in their blood. In addition, they were informed that they might feel a minimal amount of discomfort during blood sample collection. This study was conducted following the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
