: This study was approved by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Ethics Committee (16212), the Mildmay Uganda Research Ethics Committee (0407–2019), and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (SS 6020). With permission of the Ministry of Education and Sports, consent for school participation was obtained from headteachers. Caregivers of students were informed about the study and were able to opt children out of participating in surveys. If caregivers did not opt children out, children below 18 years of age also provided written informed assent, and emancipated minors and students above 18 years of age were required to provide voluntary written informed consent. Full details of the process are provided in the protocol for this study and the primary school trial.
