: The investigation of the outbreak was authorized by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene. Analyses of data from routine national surveillance are exempt from ethical committee review. The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent were obtained from patients before their data were recorded on the line list with a reference code for identification. Access to the line list was password-protected. Patients were isolated in cases management centers. Investigators and clinical staff adhered to infection prevention and control measures including the use of face masks during interviews and clinical care. Patients were treated free of charge and received no compensation. Patients and family members were counseled regarding meningitis, including its modes of transmission, prevention strategies, and control measures.
