The National Health and Family Planning Commission of China (now the National Health Commission) has determined that the collection of data from human cases of brucellosis is part of continuing public health surveillance of a notifiable infectious disease and is exempt from institutional review board assessment. All data were supplied and analyzed in an anonymous format, without access to personal identifying information. This study was approved by the ethics committee of Shanxi CDC and Changzhi Medical College to ensure compliance with ethical standards for research involving anonymized surveillance data.
