: The original trial, aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of an online sexuality education program, was approved by the Tsinghua University School of Medicine Institutional Review Board (No. 20190009, Mar.4 2019) in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from the participating schools at the institutional level and from the students’ guardians at the individual level. Students who or whose guardians declined consent were excluded from both the sexuality education module and subsequent data collection. In addition, students also provided assent by being informed of the study, its risks and benefits, and their right to decline or withdraw at any time, with their willingness to participate taken as assent.The present study is a secondary analysis of those survey data and was separately reviewed and approved by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Institutional Review Board (No. 20-0738, Apr. 6 2020), as it was conducted by the author under UNC institutional oversight as part of dissertation research. Permission to use the data for this secondary analysis was obtained from Professor Kun Tang and Marie Stopes International China, the data custodians of the original randomized controlled trial.
