Ethics approval and consent to participate: The study was submitted for review by the Institutional Ethics Committee of the Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar (IIPHG) in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) National Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical and Health Research Involving Human Participants (Approval ID: IIPHGIEC/2024-25/21–75). Permission to collect data from SCD patients in tribal areas was obtained from the relevant authorities of the Indian Council of Medical Research – National Institute of Implementation Research on Non-Communicable Diseases (ICMR – NIIRNCD).
