Ethics approval and consent to participate: The original BiB study received ethical approval from the Bradford Research Ethics Committee (Ref 07/H1302/112). Ethical approval for this study was granted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine ethics committee (Ref 30315). The research was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
Consent for publication: On attendance at the OGTT clinic during pregnancy, full informed consent was obtained for recruitment to BiB, and the woman was invited to complete an interviewer-administered questionnaire. All babies born to women who agreed to participate in the cohort study were eligible for recruitment. Subsequent to initial recruitment families provided consent to routine data linkage.
