Ethics approval and consent to participate: The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. The study was reviewed and approved by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority (Dnr 2024‑04413‑01). In the Swedish Longitudinal Gambling Study (Swelogs), informed consent was obtained from all participants by Statistics Sweden (SCB) as part of the data collection process. Participants received written information prior to participation and were asked to provide informed consent before taking part. Consent to participate was documented by SCB. The present study is based on de‑identified survey and register data provided by Statistics Sweden and the Swedish Public Health Agency.
