: This was a single-center prospective cohort study in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Perking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing, China. This study was strictly carried out in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Approval was granted by the Ethics Committee of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Approved date: Aug 2, 2022; No. I-22PJ140). In our study, seventeen non-intubated patients signed informed consent themselves, while the remaining intubated patients, under sedation and analgesia, had their informed consent signed by their next of kin.
