Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All experimental protocols were approved by Roslin Institute’s Animal Users Committee and the animals were maintained in accordance with UK Home Office guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals. The human samples were obtained with written patient consent and all procedures with ethical approval by NHS Lothian. The collection, storage, and subsequent use of human tissues are regulated in Scotland by The Human Tissue Act (Scotland) 2006. Canine osteoarthritis samples were collected with informed written consent from the owner and ethical approval for their collection and use given by the Veterinary Ethical Review Committee of the University of Edinburgh (VERC; approval 23/12). We obtained written informed consent to use the osteocalcin-cre mice in our study from Dr. Thomas Clemens.
