: The research has been conducted in full accordance with the ethical principles set out in the Declaration of Helsinki. This study complies with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation) and Law No. 78 − 17 of 6 January 1978 as amended by Law No. 2018 − 493 of 20 June 2018 on information technology, files and freedoms. As such, confidentiality of the data was guaranteed through anonymization and coding. Each patient (or representative) could at any time express their objection to the use of health data and has the right to access, rectify and object to the data collected. In this study, the OHAT assessment formed part of each participant’s routine care. We also collected data from the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) geriatric assessment, which is another routinely used tool. Any discovery of oral pathology and/or potentially pathological sign or symptom during the OHAT examinations was subject to specific oral health management based on a formalized referral process within the institution in which the patient was hospitalized. The creation of a patient file was authorized by the National Commission on Information Technology and Liberties (decision n°DR-2016-096).
