Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study received ethical approval from the Yorkshire & the Humber - Leeds East Research Ethics Committee on 12th April 2016 (reference number: 16/YH/0132). All patients with capacity provided written informed consent. For patients without capacity, a personal consultee, who was designated as next of kin, provided assent by signing a declaration form. For patients with no next of kin, a nominated consultee signed the declaration form, if they thought it appropriate. Members of staff of the palliative care setting, who had no connection to the PiPS2 research project, acted as nominated consultees (for further details please “ InternalRef removed ” section).
