: Ethical considerationsThis study is an intervention to improve the quality of ACP practice in medical, long-term care, and welfare professionals who support patient decision making. This study used data provided by the organization that conducted the training. All training data and information from the trainees included in the analyses for this study were anonymized, and no data and information that could identify individuals were included. Japan’s research ethics protocol, Guidance on the Ethical Guidelines for Medical and Health Research Involving Human Subjects (revised March 23, 2021) [CitationRef removed], was published on April 16, 2021 [CitationRef removed]. In experiments and practical training conducted for academically known events, such as health and hygiene training conducted exclusively for educational purposes, if the obtained samples and data are not used for purposes other than educational ones, it may be judged that they do not fall under “research.” The Ethics and Interests Conflict Committee of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (No, 1585) has determined that this study does not fall under “research” for ethical review. For workshop participants, we explained by slide display and oral announcement at the start of the workshop that the information collected by the eight training sites at the workshop would be provided only to the researcher if it is not personally identifiable. Thus, only the researchers can access the data provided by the eight training sites. Consent was obtained implicitly by receipt of questionnaires and related reports.Concerning data management, operations such as viewing and cleaning of data were performed only with specific equipment protected by security software managed by the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology. Data were encrypted and managed on a server with security measures managed by the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology.
