Ethics approval and consent to participate

: The study was approved by the Allendale Investigational Review (Old Lyme, CT, USA) and and the <i>Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell</i> (CHPR) Research Ethics Committee (Montevideo, Uruguay). The ethics committees approved the use of verbal consent for this study in order to provide additional protection to the participants by not including their names or signatures on any study documentation. Each participant reviewed the consent with the interviewer and had the opportunity to ask questions. If they provided verbal consent, the interviewer signed the form confirming their participation. A copy of the form was offered to each participant if they wanted. While disclosure of individual participants was unlikely, this practice mitigated any risks that may occur with their contact information on study documents.
