Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The original survey was conducted after being ethically approved by the National Research Ethics Review Committee (NRERC) (Ref. No: 3.10/114/2016). EDHS questions follow World Health Organization (2001) ethical and safety precautions and strategies for domestic violence research. Accordingly, one woman per household was interviewed, and the interview continued only if participants consent to participate and privacy was certain. Confidentiality was completely assured, interviewers were well trained and all the necessary information was provided for women who had experienced IPV [CitationRef removed]. Before the analysis, permission from the Demographic and Health Survey program and ethical approval from University of Newcastle Human Research Ethics Committee (Ref. No: H-2018-0055) was obtained.
