Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The full study protocol and all study materials were reviewed and approved by the Ethical Review Board at the University of California, San Francisco and the Kenya Medical Research Institute. All participants provided written informed consent prior to any study procedures as discussed in the methods section. Informed consent was not obtained from a parent or legal guardian of minors (under 16 years of age) who were eligible and interested to participate. This was done to maintain privacy and confidentiality given the sensitive nature of abortion care and was approved by the aforementioned Institutional Review Boards as described in our study protocol.
