Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical clearance for the study was obtained from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences Institutional Review Board (MUHAS IRB) Ref No. 2018-04-04/AEC/Vol. XII/87. The PrEPVacc cohort study received ethical approval from the MUHAS IRB and the Tanzania National Health Research Ethics Committee NIMR/HQ/R.8c/Vol.I/715. Participants were informed that their information would be treated anonymously and about their right to withdraw from the study at any time. A verbal consent was obtained from individuals willing to participate in the study and for their voice to be recorded. This was followed by a date, written name and signature of the researcher verifying that the consent was indeed taken. After the interviews, the participants received a one–to–one counselling on contraceptive use and were referred to appropriate clinics for specialized contraceptive services. Participants who were pregnant were referred to ante-natal clinics of their choice. All respondents were provided with a transport refund of 20,000 TSh (~ 10 USD).
