: The study received ethical approvals from both the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) Research Ethics Committee (Ref: GC/127/18/06/658) and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (Ref: HS 2435). All methods were performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. All participants provided written informed consent to participate. The study enrolled emancipated and mature minors aged 14–17 years. Based on the national guidelines for research involving humans as research participants () and as approved by the UVRI Research Ethics Committee (), informed consent from parents, legally authorized representatives or guardians of emancipated and mature minors was waived in order to keep volunteer confidentiality about involvement in transactional sex.
