: We have used secondary data from NFHS-4 which had received ethical approval from the Institutional Ethical Review Board (Ref. no./IRB/NFHS-4/01_1/2015) of the IIPS, Mumbai, India. Data collection team received necessary training for dealing with the IPV questionnaires. To comply with the ethical conditions, from each selected household only one eligible woman was randomly selected for responding to IPV questions. For IPV questions, the field workers secured informed consent. Privacy of the respondents were guaranteed. If the interviewer found that any respondent was a victim of IPV, she was provided with a list of appropriate local organizations to the victim. If the victim needed or wanted any help, they could contact the local organization. Written informed consent was obtained from each respondent.
