Declarations
:
: Written informed assent and consent was obtained from the adolescent participants and their caregivers. To prevent any compulsion, the procedures for adolescents and adult caregivers were separate. Forms for consent and assent were translated into Luganda from English. Adolescent participants spoke English, although most were more comfortable speaking Luganda. In light of the participants’ English competence, the assent procedure was conducted in either English or Luganda. The research outlined in this manuscript was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. All study procedures were approved by the Washington University in St. Louis Institutional Review Board (#201703102) and by in-country local IRBs in Uganda: Uganda Virus Research Institute-Research Ethics Committee (UVRI-REC– GC/127/17/07/619), and Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST– SS4406).
