: Experimental manipulations were carried out according to international ethical guidelines based on the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals published by the National Research Council [], as well as national regulations based on NOM-062-ZOO1999 []. Moreover, the recommendations proposed by Russell’s three Rs (reduce, replace, and refine), focused on experimental animal research, were considered []. The protocol was approved by the Internal Committee for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Universidad Veracruzana, whose registration number is CICUAL-ICS 20180002 dated 18 February 2019. All methods are reported in accordance with the ARRIVE guidelines for the reporting of animal experiments. Regarding the biological plant material used in the present study, it was not collected in the wild, so it was not deposited in an herbarium or public collection, as <i>Centella asiatica</i> was purchased in a food supplement formulation under the trade name Gotu kola herb (General Nutrition Centers GNC Laboratories, Pittsburgh, PA, USA; each capsule weighed 1.1 g and contained 475 mg of standardized <i>Centella asiatica</i> extract. These laboratories authenticated the contents of the container as <i>Centella asiatica</i> under batch number 20099332; therefore, it was not authenticated by a taxonomist, and a voucher was not needed. Carbamazepine was purchased under the name CARPIN®, 200 mg tablets, from NOVAG INFANCIA, S.A. DE C.V. Lot 1694, with Health Registration 86370 SSA.
