: The animal experimental protocol was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University (approval no. 012/2565) and all methods were reported in accordance with the ARRIVE guidelines. The experiment was carried out according to the rules and regulations in the Ethical Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Animals, issued by the National Research Council of Thailand.<i>Gardenia jasminoides</i> fruits were bought from a retail store. According to our institutional and national guidelines, ethical approval for the use of plants was not required for this study.
