Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This work was not a regular research project but rather the development of an education program that was followed up by quality assurance. Accordingly, there was no need for approval from an ethics committee because projects such as ours are exempted from this requirement. Moreover, according to Swedish law (Lag 2003:460), ethics committees automatically approve research methods that do not carry any risk of harm to the participants, such as the use of anonymous self-rated questionnaires. Furthermore, no sensitive personal information was collected from the anonymous questionnaires; therefore, ethical approval was not needed. The organizers also invited a steering committee that consisted of representatives from the municipality, nongovernmental organizations, and psychiatric patients’ associations to convene recurrent meetings to follow the work and provide feedback.
