Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study received ethical approval by the National Health Sciences Research Committee of Malawi (approval number 1995) and a declaration of no-objection by Leiden University Medical Centre’ Ethical Committee (reference number P18.027). Hospital management granted permission to conduct the study. All participants were provided with an informed consent form in English (Additional fileInternalRef removed: Appendix 4), regarding study purpose, publication of anonymized data and their right to withdraw from participation at any point. Interviews were conducted privately, participants were assured that their expressions would not affect their work negatively and transcripts would be deidentified to ensure confidentiality. Only SZ was aware of the identities of participants. Upon request, audio and transcripts were made available to participants.
