: All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. The Belgian Law of 7 May 2004 on Experiments on the Human Person explicitly states in article 3 ยง2 that the law does not apply (and therefore no advice should be obtained from the ethics committee as described in article 2, 4) to purely retrospective studies based on past data (which are in existing patient records, medical records or administrative records or files) and insofar as no new data relating to these patients are obtained in any way for these studies. The data processing during our research was lawfully performed without the need for informed consent and was based on art. 6.1.e of the European GDPR (processing necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest).
