The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki (as revised in 2013). The ACQUIRE-ICD study was approved by the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet), via the umbrella scheme in the Region of Southern Denmark (OUH #16/16935, June 21, 2016). The Regional Committees on Health Research Ethics for Southern Denmark (Videnskabsetisk Komité, VEK) reviewed the study protocol and determined that formal approval was not required due to the non-interventional, observational nature of the study (VEK #S-20160063, June 13, 2016). All participants in the ACQUIRE-ICD trial provided written informed consent prior to enrollment. For the present secondary analysis, no additional consent was required, as only de-identified data were used in compliance with Danish regulations. The funding bodies played no role in the design of the study; collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; or in writing the manuscript.
