Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval for this qualitative evaluation of caregiver challenges within the IDI paediatric ART program was obtained from the School of Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee at Makerere University College of Health Sciences (REC No: 2017–083) and the Uganda National council of science and technology (SS 4538). All the participants provided written informed consent prior to being interviewed. To protect client confidentiality, clients were not identified by name, transcripts and notes were stored in locked and secured storage only accessible to the principal investigator. Electronic data was stored on a password protected computer with a secure server.“All procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and with the 1964 Helsinki declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.”
