: This paper did not require ethics approval, because it arises from monitoring of a nationwide initiative rather than a research project. The monitoring of the collaborative learning approach which forms the basis of this paper was approved by the Government of Moldova as a component of the national scaling up of youth-friendly health services. No children under 16 years of age were involved in the collaborative learning sessions.
