Ethics approval and consent to participate
: According to the Italian legislation (art. 1 and art. 6 Legislative Decree 211/03, transposing the European Directive 2001/20/CE) and the University of Florence regulations, the research does not require and cannot apply for ethics committee approval.According to the European guidelines (European Commission. Ethics for researchers. Facilitating Research Excellence in FP7. Luxembourg: Publications Office of the European Union, 2013, doi), all participants were informed of the nature of the study and its aims by the network coordinator and later by the researchers before the interview. Consent to participate was voluntary and obtained before the interviews. Participants were also informed that all the information they provided would be protected from anonymity and the interviews would be recorded.
