: Data files for the Uganda demographic health surveys (UDHS) from 1995 to 2016 were requested and received from the DHS program (ExternalRef removed). The surveys are normally conducted every 5 years and the protocols were approved by the institutional review board and National Council of Science and Technology in Uganda and ICF international. No additional ethical approval was required for the secondary analysis of the datasets.
