: The COSMOS trial was conducted in according to the Declaration of Helsinki: Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects [CitationRef removed]. After explaining the aims and protocol of the study, verbal and written informed consent was obtained in direct conversation with patients who had the capacity to consent.
